Paiya - Why the title anyway?!?
Cast: Karthi,Tamannah and others.
Producer: Subash Chandra Bose.
Director: Lingusamy.
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Verdict: Plan a journey elsewhere.
Boy (Karthi) sees girl (Tamannah), falls in love. Girl is completely unaware of his existence. They meet by happenstance at a railway station where boy is mistaken for a cab driver (no wonder with the kind of costumes he sports) and she hitches a ride. Boy notices that damsel is in distress, offers help. Girl asks Knight to drop her off in Mumbai and they are on a road journey from Bengalooru to Mumbai.

Now, the glitch is that both of them are chased by gangs of henchmen. One gang is based in Mumbai and the other is girl’s paternal family. Boy overcomes all the hurdles with his bare fists knocking every goon on his way and gets the girl home safely. You think game over, but there is more. The girl’s maternal family deserts her and she is on the streets again. Boy to her rescue all over again (Yawn).
After Paiyaa, Karthi will probably join the bandwagon of stars who add thalapathi, star to their name on the title card. Hope he chooses better scripts. Tamannah, well she has done what is expected of her, which is to look beautiful (she should thank her Costume designer) and act dumb. There are scenes where the lead cast decides to use brains instead of brawn and the result is hilarious. Milind Soman should stick to calendars and commercials. The rest of the henchmen cast on both gangs are forgettable. Karthi’s group of friends including Jegan try to provide comic relief, unsuccessfully.
The technical team includes Rajeevan(art), Antony(editing), Madhie(DOP), Kanal Kannan(Stunts) and Yuvan (music). They have done their jobs to perfection. The action sequences lack reality which is quite common in Tamil movies. The stand out though is Yuvan’s music. He even lures everyone to think we are on to something here with the BGM for the opening credits, but the movie fizzes out eventually.

No words to express about the creativity of the director who is also the script writer. On the whole there are about 20 minutes of footage that seem interesting. One can be sure he would have an excuse for the film’s failure like he did with his earlier attempts. Disappointing and deplorable, the movie is a complete cliché to say the least.

P.S : Personally, I feel Angadi theru was a pathos movie hugely banking on the viewer's softer side, if there was ever one in reality. Quote
You may have watched movies like Angadi Theru, Veyil, Subramaniapuram , Nadodigal, Renigunta etc.. The stunts are so realistic. so that you can make some positive comments instead of criticizing a worthless movie. Don't criticize tamil movies on a whole you may have to select better films to watch. that is why the marketing men are screening trailers. change ur style of watching movies or stop commenting on movies those are not worth for ur comments. I am yet to find a positive comment about movies on TOS which is disappointing. i guess no one watches movies like that i have mentioned. do not watch for banner or star cast, watch for substance. Angadi Theru is what i recommend. It is a master piece by Vasantha Balan. Quote
